Greens Committee
Ecozone Audit
Greens Director Mike Cockhill and Environmental Committee Director Cathy Leslie met with Eric Guerra-Grenier of Abrinord (Organisme de bassin versant de la rivière du Nord) and Martine Renaud, Director of Urban Planning, of the Township of Wentworth in late August to review the current state of the ecozones on the 8th and 9th holes.
These two auditors were pleased with the current state of the ecozone, and we have received our Notice of Compliance that the DCC has met the commitments outlined in the Watershed Agreement (Contrat de bassin 80).
We also discussed how to correctly maintain these ecozones to keep the playing conditions as golf friendly as possible. The plan is to trim the branches overhanging the 8th fairway and dig up some trees growing in the ecozone alongside the creek (in front of the red tees) in the next year. Some of these small trees will be available to members and a notice will be made through this newsletter advising when they can be taken home.
Student Employee search
The DCC is looking to hire a student to assist the greens crew in the maintenance of the golf course through the 2027 summer.
If you know of someone who may be interested Turf Management and/or being a Greens Superintendent, this is an opportunity to learn under Chris Hart, one of the premier superintendents in the region, who is willing to share his knowledge with a keen young person to give them a jump start to their career.
All interested youngsters are encouraged to apply and make life long memories as part of the long history of student greens workers at the DCC. For more information, please contact Michael Cockhill: mbcockhill@gmail.com.
