Carts at DCC
Electric golf carts have been a great addition to the golf experience at DCC, and provide an essential service for many of our members.
This year’s extreme weather, however, is making conditions poor for the use of carts. It’s not that we’re having more rain days, it’s that we’re having more rain on those rain days.
On some days, our decision to hold carts off the course has been met with objections by members. Please know that, if we had our way, carts would be out on the course each and every day.
But DCC’s facilities were not built for carts, and even if most of the course is fine for carts on same days, we sometimes have to shut down carts to attend to — and protect — some very fragile areas.
The damage to the 3rd fairway shown below occurred late in the day on Sunday, July 12. The area is now clearly marked as Ground Under Repair (GUR). Should your ball land there, please lift and drop at the closest point of relief, no nearer the hole.
One last thing: Members and guests are expected to observe posted directions at all times when using carts. Members who are seen out of position with carts will be notified.
DCC’s magnificent golf course is its greatest asset. Please do your part to help protect it.

Inaugural DCC Junior Golf Camp
The DCC hosted 32 kids for its first Junior Golf Camp this past week, with the weather cooperating enough to ensure time on the course and off was not hampered.
The kids, who ranged from ages 6 to 14, were eager to have fun while learning during days filled with lessons, golf and fun activities. Golf lessons on Monday and Junior Day on Tuesday occupied those mornings, with the kids able to spend much other time on the practice green and driving cage. A past Club Captain was a special guest as the juniors also learned about golf etiquette and rules. More golf followed before being capped with a 5-team game of Monkey Golf on Friday.
In the clubhouse, the juniors constructed elaborate Lego concoctions and bracelets, enjoyed activities like yoga and painting/drawing with the Dunany Artists. Four teens were among the many to help make the week a success, so a big thank you to all who helped and contributed.
Finally, a reminder to all Juniors to sign up for the Bantam Soper Shield (Under 12) and the Garth Fish (12 and up) by July 25. Please make sure you have an updated handicap of at least six games from 2026.

On the course
Congrats to this weekend’s winners, including Shea Wightman (pictured above) bailing out his mother Tracy on the 6th hole en route to their Parent & Child Under-16 victory. Their win completed a Wightman weekend sweep as Tim and Tate Wightman won the Parent & Child Over-16 category on Saturday.
A busy weekend ahead at the Dunany Country Club, here’s a rundown of what’s coming:
Friday (July 17): Ladies Invitational - Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future!
Our annual Women's Invitational is almost here! There is a new format this year featuring an afternoon of golf, friendly competition and team spirit as Team Legacy takes on Team Inspire! ALL members (and guests) are invited to join after dinner for music and dancing by DJ GRBG (Ryan Best & Co.). Bring your moves and get ready for some fun!
Registration starts at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. (course will be closed between 2-5 p.m., approximately). Dinner is at 6 p.m. with the DJ, celebration and dancing from 9 p.m.
Saturday (July 18): Mike Roy Memorial Tournament
Captains Stephanie Logothetis and Jon Roy will build the teams, and we will email those to players ahead of Saturday’s 2 p.m. shotgun start. Please be sure to wear your team color. Here is a reminder of the format/rules:
Holes 1-3: Scramble: All players hit a tee shot and each team chooses the preferred ball to both hit again from that spot. Play continues under this format until the ball is holed out. All teams must use at least one drive from each player over these 3 holes.
Holes 4-6: Alternate Shots: Determine the player to hit the 1st tee shot and then every shot from there is alternated between players, including after putting.
Holes 7-9: Best Ball: Each player plays their own ball, with lowest score of all players winning the hole for the team.
Food: Sign-up for just the meal for those who will not golf at the Mike Roy Memorial must be done by 12 p.m. today! If you do not sign-up by then we cannot guarantee you will eat. The meal is a return to the smoked meat supper (vegetarian option also available) with coleslaw and pickles, Caesar salad and dessert. Cost is $30 for 12+, $15 for ages 8-12 and free for under 8s.

Sunday (July 19) 12 p.m.: Celebration of Life – Joanne Poole
The Poole Family is inviting DCC members to attend a Celebration of Life in Honor of Joanne Poole. The celebration will start at 11 a.m. with a service at St. Paul’s Church, followed by a reception at 12 p.m. at the Clubhouse.
5 p.m.: Lights! Camera! Action! It’s Chico’s Talent Night!
We hope the young ones have been practicing their dance routines, brushing up on their musical instruments, refining their comedy set pieces and/or magic shows because it’s time to show it off on Sunday at the annual Chico’s Talent Night! Dr. John Kiteala’s joy for music and the arts was always on full display at this annual family soirée, with junior acts of all ages (up to 18) encouraged to participate.
This event is open to all members, whether your child is performing or not. A lasagna dinner with Caesar salad and garlic bread followed by ice cream is served first before the show begins. The cost is $10 for ages 13+, $5 from age 5 to 12 and free for children under 5. Acts should register upon arrival. If you have any questions, please email Sharon Leslie at munnylady@gmail.com.
Course news
One of the key machines for cutting the rough is currently being repaired with the back-order parts delayed. Unfortunately, the course will not be in optimal condition for the weekend with longer than usual rough around the tees and greens, and the second cut of the rough. The Greens crew apologizes for this disruption and is doing all it can to improve the situation.
The course remains closed on Monday morning until 11 a.m. through July, which offers the perfect opportunity to take a lesson with our in-house teacher, Mathieu Castonguay. He is offering lessons at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. every Monday morning. You can email him directly at m.castonguay1213@gmail.com
Ladies Golf
Congratulations to Dianne Vanstone, our Culinary Champion in this week’s Stick a Fork in Me…I’m Done! event. Giving her a run for her money was our talented Sous Chef, Judy Butler, who finished a very close second. Well done, ladies! Be sure to check out the photo of some of our fabulous Chefs for the Day—they certainly looked the part.
It’s been wonderful to see our Ladies Day numbers continuing to grow. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now’s the perfect time! Ladies Day – every Wednesday from 9 a.m. – is all about great golf, plenty of laughs, friendly competition and catching up with an amazing group of women. Friday, July 24: Wynn-Wightman Anniversary Party
Following the evening’s 5 a 7 and serving as the kick-off for Music Fest, this night event is open to all members as Tracy Wynn and Tim Wightman celebrate 25 years of marriage. There will be live music followed by a DJ for a night of dancing. Drop by for a toast and some good old Wynn family fun!

Friday, July 31: Alan Morton’s Summer “After Par-tee”
Alan spent his career mastering the turf, but Dunany was where he truly played, laughed and lived his life “Fully Completely”. As one of the long-serving Greens Chair and nearly lifelong member, he loved every inch of golf’s nine holes, its rich history, and everything that makes golf the game it is - from the condition of the course to the traditions, integrity and camaraderie that define it…almost as much as he loved a good par-tee!
Alan would love for everyone to play his favourite 9-holes, so please message Catherine Spaulding or Jeff Best to book a tee time for that day.

The New Member 5 a 7 was a huge success with over 85 people in attendance to welcome 17 new members. The party was hosted by the Hindle Family while Susie & the Fellas (Bruce MacLeod, Sue Smith and Steve Roy) entertained all with wonderful music amid abundant and delicious eats. Our DCC history was on display in the Clubhouse which was of interest to all. Thanks to everyone who came out to make our new DCC members feel right at home!
Saturday’s Performance Series with True North was also a great success! Thank you to our BBQ and food prep teams who helped feed almost 150 people. Our next Performance series is scheduled for August 28th with Nils Brown - so mark your calendars. Another note – the Performance Series featuring Guy Bélanger has been moved forward to September 4 (originally September 19).

The Macleod family will host a family chess tournament on Thursday, July 23 from 6:15-8:30pm at the clubhouse. Kids and adults are welcome to play and can register to play here. The Macleods will provide extra chess sets, snacks for kids, and prizes ($ credit in Dunany accounts for bar/starter shack). Don’t miss it!
