  • Ladies can still sign-up for the two-day IMP Tournament to compete for the beautiful soapstone trophy, first presented in 1973 and named in honour of Isobel Saubeli, Myrtle Ashman and Pat Pierce. This weekend competition was created to allow the lady members who worked a chance to participate in a tournament. Ladies must play 9 holes on Saturday and Sunday to qualify. Sign up here and/or please advise the starter before teeing off. Low net wins the trophy.

  • Men over-50 (as of January 1, 2026) have their own two-day tournament as well with the Moustache Cup. The first round is played on Saturday and second is played on Sunday with the low net winner crowned.

The weekend that was: A red sweep!

Ladies Invitational:  Congratulations, Team Legacy (in red)!

The Ladies Invitational – Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future – was a wonderful day with perfect weather, friendly competition and a great celebration afterwards. Thank you to all the participants and the many volunteers who gave their time and energy to make the day such a success.

An exciting new format was introduced this year with 76 women divided into two teams for a fun and memorable day of golf. Juniors Aubrey Laekas and Jacqueline Logothetis also showed up for some fun on the putting green. We were also very pleased to welcome LPGA professional Marie-Claude Carpentier, who shared stories from her life in golf and spoke about her love of the game. Our guests were completely engaged, and it seems Marie-Claude enjoyed the Dunany experience just as much. She later sent this note:

“What a day it was. I’ve lived hundreds of golf experiences in my long life in the game, and yesterday is a top 10. The love the Dunany Ladies have for the game is incredible, and your sense of community is second to none. I’m serious, you should give a course in the importance of community in society. Seeing the picture of the LPGA founders, the men tending bar, and all the members do to keep this place they love alive and well is inspiring.”

Her note really captures the sense of community we all work hard to create for our members and guests. Thank you Marie-Claude! Finally, a sincere thanks to Wendy Castator, Diane Glionna, Tracy Whitman, and Marilyn Wynn for their creativity, hard work, and dedication in organizing such a successful tournament.

Mike Roy Memorial: Another nailbiter

Congratulations to Chixdiggit (Team Red) for going back-to-back to win the Mike Roy Memorial Tournament after the Ryder Cup style match play event went down to the wire. Captain Stephanie Logothetis’ team did just enough to pick up 6 out of 12 points for a tie against Blue Steel (Team Blue), to retain the title for another year.

Great team and community spirit as Dunany, friends and families from close and far all showed up to pay tribute to Mike and the love of the game that fuelled him throughout his life. Looking forward to next year’s event when Carl Demers steps in as a new captain to knock Stephanie from her perch!

Chico's Talent Night

A big thank you to Sharon Leslie for putting together another incredible Chico’s Talent Night. Your hard work is greatly appreciated by us all. And a big congratulations to all of our talented acts! From skits to dancing to piano and to singing, you showed off your talent and gave us a great show, with MC Beatrice Glickman and judges Chrystine Brydon and Duncan Campbell performing marvellously, themselves!

Ladies Golf

A Reminder About Score Posting: Please remember to post every score to the Golf Canada Score Centre as soon as possible after your round. A minimum of nine holes must be played to post a score. Match Play scores should also be posted. If a putt or hole is conceded, simply record your most likely score for that hole. Thank you for helping keep our handicaps accurate and our competitions fair.

Enjoy your time on the course, and good luck in the IMP Tournament!

- Dianne Vanstone, Ladies Captain

Upcoming events to watch for

Friday, July 31: Alan Morton’s Summer “After Par-tee”

Alan spent his career mastering the turf, but Dunany was where he truly played, laughed and lived his life “Fully Completely”. As one of the long-serving Greens Chair and nearly lifelong member, he loved every inch of golf’s nine holes, its rich history, and everything that makes golf the game it is - from the condition of the course to the traditions, integrity and camaraderie that define it…almost as much as he loved a good par-tee!

Alan would love for everyone to play his favourite 9-holes, so please message Catherine Spaulding or Jeff Best to book a tee time for that day.

Saturday, August 1: Ladies Cocktail Party: Celebrating 50 Years of Quilting, Tradition, Friendship, and Community

For 50 years, the Dunany community has come together to create something truly special. Each annual quilt reflects not only beautiful craftsmanship, but also the creativity, generosity, and enduring spirit of our community. This year's quilt, designed by Paula, Katie and Sarah Armstrong, continues a cherished tradition while celebrating five decades of quilting in Dunany. Join us for the Ladies' Cocktail Party and Quilt Raffle as we celebrate this milestone. Our anniversary theme is gold, so dust off your gold hats, shoes, bow ties, jewelry, or anything that sparkles, and plan to join the fun!

To help make our Golden Anniversary celebration shine, we're looking for a little extra help:

  • Volunteers: There are many ways to contribute, including preparing appetizers (we need lots!), helping with set-up, providing flowers for the mantel and tables, or assisting during the event. Please consider signing up for one of the volunteer opportunities on our volunteer sheet.

  • Photos (and videos if possible) to help celebrate our 50-year quilting tradition. We'd especially love to receive pictures of past quilts, quilting circles, Ladies' Cocktail parties, or even a photo of you stitching a quilt square. Please send your memories directly to Cheryl Glionna no later than Tuesday, July 20. cherylglionna@hotmail.ca

  • Raffle Donations: As we celebrate the incredible talent of our quilters, we also want to recognize the people, history, and spirit of our community. To commemorate our 50th anniversary, we're seeking donations of special items for our door prizes. These could include handcrafted items, homemade baked goods, locally authored books, historical keepsakes, gift certificates from local businesses, or any unique item that reflects the creativity, heritage, or generosity of our community.  If you'd like to donate a door prize, or have questions, please contact Cheryl directly: cherylglionna@hotmail.ca

Thank you for helping us celebrate 50 years of quilting, friendship, and community. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Your Hosts,
Cheryl Glionna, Melissa Markhauser Laekas and Stephanie Logothetis
