June 1, 2023 Spring Newsetter

President's Report
Paul Wilson, President

An early and relatively warm and dry Spring allowed for the opening of the course a week earlier than the traditional May long weekend tee-off. Many have already taken advantage of the great conditions and have been busy on the course. It’s great practice to play this early in the season; if you can putt well with blackflies around you, then you can certainly focus on your putts on the final green of the Club Championship! The course is already in great shape thanks to the efforts of Chris Hart and Rob Haldimand. Please thank them for all their hard work if you see them on the course.

Our AGM was held on May 13th this year. Thank you to all our members who showed up on an especially beautiful day to take part in the proceedings. We heard some great feedback about the proposed bylaw change during the discussion. The proposed change to the cap on regular membership from 260 to 285 was voted in by the attendees of the AGM. Thank you to Stephanie Logothetis and Jamie Armstrong for your help with the preparation of the material that was presented to the members, and for answering questions from our especially curious AGM attendees during the proceedings.

One of the key elements of the AGM’s agenda is the election of this year’s board of directors, and I am pleased to share that the following members will be acting in the following chairs for the 2023 season:

Officers

President: Paul Wilson

Past-President: Pierre Demers

Vice-President: Jamie Armstrong

Treasurer: Alex Sandahl

Secretary: Andrea Minty

Directors

House Committee: Peter Curtin

Junior Committee: Stephanie Logothetis

Greens Committee: Alan Morton

Ladies Committee: Jean MacGibbon

Communications Committee: Christopher Jackson

Social Committee: Dianne Burke

Member at Large: Kevin Havill

Captain & Match Committee: Carl Demers

Environment Committee: Cathy Leslie

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new directors Carl, Peter, Jean and Kevin. I look forward to working with all of you! Thanks again to our outgoing directors Tom Lowe, Tracy Wightman, and Becky Thompson. Our new directors have their work cut out for them living up to the standard the three of you have set over the past few years.

We are welcoming back two of our fantastic starters from last year, Harry Ritchie and Ava Verreault. Please stop by at the beginning of your round to say hello and check in with the starters. Also, don’t forget to book your tee times on Chronogolf before your round. We are also officially welcoming Pierre Demers as Operations Manager. Last year, Pierre took on the responsibilities of Operations Manager as a volunteer, and will continue his work this year. If you visit the course you will likely see him hard at work.

We have a full fixture card this year with golf and social events happening almost every week. I hope to see you all at the course soon!

Thanks,

Paul Wilson, President

From Your Social Committee

Our first event of the season, the Soirée Pub & Pizza Night, with live music by John Showman and Chris Coole, was a great success, with more than 95 guests in attendance!

Many thanks to the volunteers (a team of over 25 people!) who helped make this night a success, especially our chefs, Dave Glionna and Jim Cameron.

Next up is our Opening Dinner & Dance on Saturday, July 1st. Save the date and watch for more details coming soon!

And don’t forget that our Clubhouse Bar opens on Friday, June 23rd, with a Cinq-à-sept celebrating the Fête nationale weekend!
