Mens Club Championship

Ladies Club Championship.jpg

The Men’s Club Championship provided members with a weekend of high drama as the A title went down to the wire and the B went beyond it. This year’s club championships – including Ladies and Juniors – were notable for the multiple family generations competing, from the Campbells to Hays, Moore-McLeods to Wynn-Wightmans and beyond, the championship tradition is strong and continues to grow at Dunany Country Club.

Class A: Down to the wire

Robbie Campbell edged defending champion Manuel Coté by 1 stroke to win his second Club Championship as the club’s top golfer. Manu looked in command after an opening round 2-under 70 for a 7-shot lead over Robbie and Thom Hay Sr. But Robbie bounced back strong in Saturday’s second round with eagles at No. 9 in both of his rounds to cut the lead to 3 shots going into Sunday’s final round, where a fast start allowed him to hold off Manu’s late charge to claim the Wilson-M.D. Roy Cup.

Class B: What a Fin-ish!

Finley J. Wightman secured the Soper Trophy following a three-way playoff with defending champion Curtis Ryan and Donald Sutherland. Fin and Curtis exchanged leads after the first two rounds before Don made a charge on Sunday to force the four-hole playoff (on Nos. 1, 7, 8, 9).

Fin’s par on No. 8 (the third playoff hole) gave him the lead over Curtis and he successfully scrambled out of the rough before rolling in a 15-footer on No. 9 in front of crowd to secure another famous B triumph, one year on from Curtis’ own playoff victory here.

Best of the rest: Class C and D

Calling all green thumbs, outdoor project enthusiasts and sandwich makers
Wednesday, September 11 from 10 a.m. at the DCC

We’re planning a clean-up and landscaping makeover (with lunch) and would love to count on your help!

Whether you’ve got a green thumb or just love getting your hands dirty, we’d love to have you join us for a project aimed at enhancing the entrance to the club to create a beautiful, low maintenance landscaped entry with extra parking in the upper lot. Every bit of help counts, so grab your gardening gloves and let’s get to work!

Please consult the sign-up sheet for a list of jobs and where you can assist. (Please note: this project is contingent upon securing enough volunteers to execute.)

Tasty Show!

Ladies Club Championship.jpg

More than 75 members and guests dined on delicious shish taouk and falafel plates catered by Ararat Restaurant while enjoying a fabulous show from DCC’s own Macleod, Macleod and Roy at another enjoyable 5 a 7 last Friday.

Our thanks to the musicians, the volunteer bar and serving staff, and to Greg at Ararat (in Lachute beside the Super C) for making the evening a smashing success. Along with food offerings from Angela’s Kitchen and The Nook, we’re thrilled at this new addition to DCC’s culinary repertoire!

Championship Dinner
