Women’s Club Championship

Bravo to 26 DCC Ladies for braving the wild, wet weather and shifting starting times to compete in their Club Championship this past weekend.

Class A champion (36 holes): Barbara Campbell (179); runner-up: Tracy Wightman (192)
Class B champion (36 holes): Angie MacLeod (198); runner-up: Sarah Wilson (211)
Class C champion (18 holes): Lyne Chouinard (107); runner-up: Dianne Burk (110)

Junior Club Championship

The weekend's wet weather left the course soaked for the Junior Club Championship on Monday and Tuesday, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the 28 juniors (ranging from ages 5 to 16) competing for silverware. Shea Wightman’s opening round of 2-over 38 put him in prime position to finish ahead of Dylan Adams and William Hay.

Here is the complete list of winners:

Class B (18 holes): Thomas Edey (112); runner-up: Ciaran de Vries-Cruise (121)
Class C (18 holes): Kai Laekas (145); runner-up: Aubrey Laekas and Landen Long (152)

Congratulations to all of our Juniors on another amazing season and to Junior Captain Stephanie Logothetis for all of her amazing work!

Men’s Championship 5 a 7 

Join us for the Men’s Championship 5 a 7 on Friday (August 16) — the first day of their championship weekend!

We will be treated to the musical stylings of Macleod, Macleod and Roy as the contenders have a cold one, tell tales of golf misery or joy.   

DCC Championship Dinner is around the corner!

‘Taste of the Islands’ is the theme for Saturday’s night of dinner and dancing, beginning from 5:30 p.m. Your three-course tropical meal will be followed by live music from the popular Montreal band The Project One Love with reggae, soul, funk and jazz hits.

Dinner and show for Members: $55
Dinner and show for Guests: $70
Music only for Members (Pay at the bar): $10
Music only for Guests (Pay at the bar): $15

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• Meal selections on the sign-up sheet will be considered final on Sunday, August 18 at 9 a.m. so meal orders can be sent to caterer. All attendees must select one option for each of the three courses. There are currently selections missing or too many choices selected - please check the sheet to make sure yours are complete. If updates are not done by this Sunday, your meal might be a surprise!

• After the deadline passes, names on the sign-up sheet will be charged to their account. If you cannot attend after this date, you must find your own replacement. Please ensure all guest names include the member’s name next to theirs in parenthesis.

• We are reaching capacity and doing what we can to accommodate the waiting list. When/if seats free up, we will add you to open seats. If you’re on the wait list, check the sign-up sheet frequently this week for possible updates. If you have a guest, ensure to include your name so we can do our best to seat you together.

 

Volunteers Needed!

As a club run by the members for the members, we rely on kind and generous volunteers to help make these events possible.   Please check out the volunteer sign-up sheet to see how you can lend a hand.

CPR Courses – a few spots left!

We are pleased to bring you CPR training with certified instructor Kim Kasprzyk.

Kim is offering a special condensed 2-hour class which will include a demonstration in using the Club’s defibrillator.

When: Sunday, August 25: 3 training sessions, offered at: 12:00 p.m.; 2:30 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.
Where: The Clubhouse.
Why: CPR saves lives! Minutes count! In a remote location, you can provide life-saving assistance until help arrives. Anyone can take a CPR course. Kids aged 12 and over are welcome to sign up. The more people we train, the better!

Dunany Studio Artists Coming Soon

The Dunany Studio Artists will showcase another exceptional exhibition of fine art at the Clubhouse on Thursday, August 22, and Friday, August 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In Praise of Loons’ is this year’s theme, recognizing those quintessential, unique birds so symblomatic of Canadian lakes and cottage living. Fifteen artists will showcase original watercolours, pastels, oils, acrylics, artistic mosaics and sculptures. This group of creative, exceptionally talented, multi-media artists have exhibited their fine art at the DCC the past 26 years. This annual vernissage is a highlight on the summer calendar and a not-to-be-missed experience!
